Why does Santa Wears Red?
Santa is a jolly man who brings holiday cheer and joy to all. Many people believe that Santa wears red because of Coca-Cola. The Coca-Cola company has been influential in depicting Santa but the truth is, red suit appeared in written descriptions and illustrations long before Coca-Cola’s advertisements (in 1931) were created. Haddon Sundblom, the artist who created magazine ads for Coca-Cola was actually inspired by Clement Clark Moore’s poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (also known as “The Night Before Christmas”).
But the fact is, before Coca-Cola’s advertisement and Moore’s poem, there was actual St. Nicholas (Bishop of Myra in the 4th century) and his traditional cloaks were red and white. After the bishop passed away, his legend grew as he was known for his kindness and generosity to children.
